A 6.4 magnitude earthquake has rocked New Zealand’s South Island at about 9am (local time) on Wednesday.
People as far north as Auckland reported feeling shaking, with more than 14,000 felt reports on GeoNet.
The tremors struck just north of Geraldine at a depth of 11km.

The epicentre of the quake was near Christchurch, which was devastated by an earthquake in 2011.
At this stage, there are no reports of injuries or damage.
